‘Digital Specimens’ is a visual exploration that dismantles the linearity of our memories and narratives, and breaks it down into an unstable, structureless montage. It aims to force us to confront the past until we are overwhelmed by it and it saturates our senses, facilitating a continuous cycle of experiencing and releasing. In an age where human lives are increasingly digitised, our histories reside in folders, clouds, and social media archives, susceptible to the threat of becoming lost media. This is especially concerning as preservation is part of our struggle against erasure. This work prompts reflection on how we preserve and engage with our history, especially in the era where we perform as ourselves for others in an increasingly dominant virtual world.
Digital Specimens was exhibited with CXLLIDE on November 2023.
